Fergless, right, that's where I saw it most recently (it's still there if you look down the thread), though I think I first saw it somewhere in one of the sprawling DSLReports FAQs too. I've also seen /9 for just DS, and you mention 13.81, which I have not seen (does one result in km and one miles?).

Im a network support specialist for TELUS, and I basically reset ports all day long and get a general idea what the norms are when it comes to ATTN / distance ratio.
While of course unsubtantiated, Downstream (important) ATTN / 13.8 give a VERY close approximation to loop length providing there isnt somthing completely aggregarious connecting to the modem, such as a line filter attached the the patch cord going to the modem, rust on the terminals, bad demarc etc.
This is my 2nd post but unfortunately you guys will be seeing more of me here now heh

Well that's good news, and welcome aboard the Acanac Express. LOL

I know that street distance versus cable run rarely correlates, but th DS / 13.8 works out to be closer to the physical distance to the CO I'm connected to.

There's a stinger box at the main intersection just under 1km away. The Bell tech that lives down the street told me that he's connected to the box but I'm still hooked up to the CO which is ~2.5Km by car, so the calculated distance is 39/13.8, or 2.8Km, is about right(er)

I've connected the Aztech modem directly to the demarc box at the outside of the house and it made no difference in readings. I tried the Speedtouch and again, no difference. The inside wiring is all Cat5e for the phones. I pulled triple drops to all rooms, voice and data and RG6 as some rooms didn't have and phone jacks or tv outlets.

I had a Bell tech come by and check both lines. The main line had corrosion at the block, but the second line was about as good as it was going to get, according to him.

Looking at your stats, you should be able to fast path just fine provided you dont mind a few crc errors every 15 mins.
When I started on the 15th, I was on the 6.0 interleaved profile. yeah cool that i defaulted to 1 meg faster but i need the lowest latency possible, preferred over throughput.
So I submitted an ticket by calling and asking if they can set me to the 992.5 specs, they said no. Then i asked if you can put me on "fast path" and they just cut a TT to bell. within 4 hours i was on the 5 meg fast path profile. fine by me. Yeah i got 400 crc errors over 3 days of uptime, but i need low latency for voip.
Cant you just demmand it anyways and to hell with the consequences?

So far it's still rock solid. Had a power bump Saturday night which highlighted the fact that the UPS that the network gear hangs off of had a bad battery so it all reset.

The only reading that changed was the following:

Intrinsic/Actual and Maximum Bandwidth:%, kbit/s
Downstream: 69, 8672 <- down from 81, 7360
Upstream: 64, 1240

Looks like I have higher bit allocation this time around the pilot tone than last, I had more of a gap there the last time I sync'ed.

I have had no CRC error before the bump or up until now. Very happy with the connection.
I'll give support a call next week, so I have a "good enough" amount of stats to hopefully convince them to send in a ticket to get me on fast path.
