I was happy for the last couple of days with my dsl speed, I achieved about the same speed as my previous ISP. I checked my modem settings when I first connected through Acanac and made note of of the info, which was pretty consistent with the previous provider's stats. The Path Mode has always been set to Fast Path. Today I checked again, and it's set to Interleaved. My ping times are way up (2-3x) and my throughput is about 1-2Mb slower than it was for the first few days. Could this change be due to the "switch-over" as I just changed over to Acanac and the cutoff date was "sometime at the end of this week" (according to my previous provider). If so, how do I go about getting the Path Mode set back to Fast Path? My US/DS Rate is 800/6016 My US/DS attenuation is still the same at 39/25, as is my DS/US margin at 9/12. It's not great, but I haven't had any problems before on Fast Path. I was getting 760/5015 sustained before now I'm barely getting over 415/3613 peak, 320/2240 average. Other than that, "Nothing has changed"(TM). Lucas

My connection went down last night at around 10:30pm. This morning, I had to power cycle my modem to get it back up. I first power cycled my wireless router which made no difference. I'm not blaming Acanac for any of this as the DSL connection is out of their hands. What makes me wonder though is that the connection was "flawless" (didn't notice any issues) before. I find it coincidental that this started happening just around the time the switch over occurred. I also forgot to mention that I have a business account, that is why my profile is 6016/800. Hopefully this won't be a morning ritual Lucas

You could cal support to go on Fast Path, but if you're having disconnects intermittently I wouldn't advise it. I had to to go on Interleave after having Fast Path for over a year without disconnects and my Noise Margins went up 2db on Interleave without any more disconnects. I'd call anyway and get them to check the line.

My connection went down twice so far since last. I decided to check the modem before doing any power cycling.
Both times, when I lost the connection, the modem page displayed this error: Internal communication error. Exiting.
After power cycling the modem, I regained the connection.
It seems like the modem becomes unstable a few hours before it gives up. The DSL speed starts bouncing around, eventually it grinds to a halt.
Anyone know what internal communication error it is having?
I'm going to post a trouble ticket for this issue.

Found a "pattern", seems like gateway '.8.1 has some high latency. Other gateways have been solid.

IMHO, the most important realization is that the critical relationship is between you and your BBRAS (BroadBand Remote Access Server), i.e. WAN gateway. I am working on some some tools to help with this. There is an issue that involves token-ring fail-over ... what happens is that a failure causes a direction reversal (long-way) but when the problem is fixed, the loop cycle direction does not revert automatically! So, you need to get off that BBRAS, or else hope that some human fixes it. Sadly, most users only know 2 measures: 1. "internest speed tests" 2. "power-cycle modem" Extremely few know how to test their ADSL connection (i.e. to their BBRAS).

Not yet. I still have the Netopia 3341 modem still from the old ISP (They told me to wait for the shipping box to arrive).
Unfortunately it has custom firmware in it. I can telnet into it and set up a connection, etc. and connect using my Acanac credentials. I can see my profile but nothing that tells me the connection quality. The web pages are missing (to save space???). The embedded server exists, I can connect to it, but I end up with a page not found error.
LOL! Figures.
So now to find another modem... I'll see if I can borrow one from a neighbour.

OK, I'm back on the board again. Don't know what happened there.
Anyways, I got a hold of a Speedtouch 516 v6 modem.
Here are my stats with the DSL605EU:
Us Rate (Kbps) 800 Ds Rate (Kbps) 6016 US Margin 9 DS Margin 8 Trained Modulation ADSL_G.dmt LOS Errors 0 DS Line Attenuation 40 US Line Attenuation 25 Peak Cell Rate 1886 cells per sec CRC Rx Fast 0 CRC Tx Fast 0 CRC Rx Interleaved 0 CRC Tx Interleaved 5 Path Mode Interleaved
The 5 CRC Tx error occur when I first connect, after that, it doesn't change.
Now with the SpeedTouch:
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 800 / 6.016 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11,5 / 19,5 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24,0 / 39,0 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 16,0 / 9,0 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ALCB Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 21 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
The Forward Error Correction count hasn't changed either since connecting.

A few things wrong with this post but not important except:
First part is definately the Aztec modem mentioned. Second part I have never seen in this modem.
Your stats indicate you should be able to handle "Fast Path" Your computer has stored all the info from your previous modem and connections.
Not knowing what you have I would suggest you download and run Advanced System Care" (it' free) It is 98% safe for most things and automatically creates a restore file. (be careful with Optimise) Also download and run "TCP optimizer" and set it to your connection type and speed.(it's free)
Hope these help.

I'm on a business DSL account.
I'm running 3 separate gateways, isolated networks. 2 are Linksys boxes, one is a whitebox special running FreeBSD.
The only major thing that changed was the ISP and the modem. Since the modem can be the culprit, I acquired a SpeedTouch modem to see if it made a difference.
With the previous ISP, I had not consecutive disconnect issues. Right now my connection is going up and down like a yoyo, so I'd like to figure out why.
I used to be on FastPath but when I changed ISP, Bell changed the profile to Interleaved.

Nevermind, Paul posted a message that explained the drops.
Hopefully things will be better.
Thanks!
